The December 2011 edition of Xbox World has hit newsstands everywhere, with the latest issue jam-packed with a multitude of enticingly interesting rumors. The most notable to be found in the rumor section is the hint that a sequel to the well-received Alan Wake is currently in development over at Remedy for Microsoft’s next generation successor.
A handful of Microsoft-friendly developers are supposedly hard at work creating a host of launch titles for the device, which is currently pegged in for a late 2013 release – the magazine speculates that the reason for the deafening silence regarding a possible sequel is as a result of the intense secrecy regarding the next-generation console. Oskari Häkkinen, head of franchise development at Remedy, recently dodged a question pertaining to Alan Wake 2, confirming that more Alan Wake-related content is incoming, however, a sequel was denied to be in existence.
”Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we’re saving for our official announcement when we’ll actually SHOW YOU. We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It’s something that’ll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren’t familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board.”
Eurogamer recently reported that the Finnish company recently posted a selection of positions seeking various development staff for a “AAA console project” – fueling endless rounds of rumors that Alan Wake 2 is in development, due to a position specifically referencing Alan Wake.
“You will be working on the next iteration of Remedy’s unique world-class rendering engine that was previously used in Alan Wake,” stated the advert on the company’s official website.
Could the rumors be true? Is Alan Wake 2 really a next-gen title? Hopefully we will find out in due time. For now, take this rumor with a pinch of salt until further confirmation is provided. Check out the rumor below and in the December 2011 edition of Xbox World.
”Talking of which, we hear that a number of Microsoft-friendly developers are hard at work on prepping next-gen games AS WE SPEAK. Could this be the reason why Remedy are so quiet about Alan Wake 2? (Yes.)”
